Why are some planned activities shorter than others?

We all want to get closer to our goals as fast as possible, so it’s tempting to want to work or train hard all the time. Some workouts are shorter and easier than others because they’re designed as active recovery—getting your body fresh and ready for the next hard workout. It can be tempting to run much faster or longer than prescribed in these workouts, but you’ll quickly find that it makes the next “Long” or “Hill” run harder than it should be.
